Description
The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and the Minister of Defense, Ivan Velasquez, ask for forgiveness from the families of people who were forcibly disappeared and killed, during a ceremony in Bogota. The alleged murders form part of what is known as "false positives," where Colombia’s military killed civilians and then presented them as guerilla fighters to try to inflate the effectiveness of their fight against rebels. On the same day, Colombia’s Army also apologized for the deaths of civilians executed by soldiers. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
