Description
Representatives of the Colombian government, the ELN guerrilla group and civil society hold the first meeting to set out the terms for participation of civil society in peace talks to end a decades-long armed conflict. Guarantor and accompanying countries, the Church, and the United Nations are also represented at the meeting.
Talks with the ELN form part of leftist President Gustavo Petro's stated quest for "total peace" in Colombia. The country has seen more than five decades of conflict between the government on one side, and leftist guerrillas, right-wing paramilitaries, drug cartels and other criminal groups on the other.
