Description
In the Hungarian border village of Dregelypalank, mayor David Rigo sees no end to a flow of migrants, "dropped off by traffickers", crossing the border between Hungary and Slovakia. So many have been crossing the frontier in recent months that Slovakia and Slovenia have both taken the exceptional measure of reintroducing border controls with Hungary. "It is in the government's interests to make it easier for asylum seekers to transit Hungary," said Rudolf Berkes, an analyst at Budapest-based Political Capital think-tank, adding Hungary can use the migrants as "political leverage" in EU negotiations.
