Description
More than ten years after receiving nearly 3.5 million Syrian refugees, Turkey is tentatively setting up work-based integration programmes with the help of the European Union. Officially, Syrians who have come here to escape the war are still considered by Ankara to be "guests" under "temporary protection", set to return to Syria in due course. "The word integration is not used by Turkish officials. At the same time, they admit that the conditions in Syria today do not allow a return and that everything must be done to allow a life in harmony," explains the EU Ambassador to Turkey, Nikolaus Meyer-Landrut.
