Description
Residents of Rocinha, one of Brazil's largest favelas, are enduring the country's ongoing heat wave without electricity. Construction workers are managing the unusually high temperatures by staying hydrated and taking showers with a hose whenever possible. In an effort to save money, many residents are trekking to a concealed water source at the top of the favela to access fresh water. The heatwave, persisting for several days, continues to impact Brazil, particularly in cities such as Rio de Janeiro, where the heat index reached a record 58.5°C (137.3 degrees Fahrenheit) earlier this week.
