Description
The head of Communications at Russian LGBTQ rights NGO Sphere Foundation, Noel Shaida, says Russia's move to ban the "international LGBT movement," claiming it is an extremist group, is an "obvious continuation of constant repression." Shaida adds that "you will have to go underground" after this move. The "extremist" label opens the way to the criminal prosecution of any group protecting the rights of LGBTQ communities in Russia. If applied to individuals, it means gay, lesbian, transgender or queer people living in Russia could face years in jail. SOUNDBITES
