Description
For more than a century, Marc Bernhardt's family has run a dairy farm perched in the Saxon mountains in eastern Germany. But passing the torch to a new generation will be difficult, he warns. His production costs have risen since the war in Ukraine, and his electricity costs have jumped by "50%". In Germany, more than half of farm incomes depend on public subsidies. Along with his fellow members in the independent ‘Land schafft Vebindung’ collective, the dairy farmer has been heavily involved in the large-scale demonstrations that have been taking place across the country since the start of the year.
