Description
As Kosovo marks the 25th anniversary of the war, statues, American flags and streets named after US presidents indicate an undying gratitude for the Western military intervention that pushed the Serbian government out of the breakaway province. Klinton Gashi's family offered its own private thanks: "I received the name Clinton from my parents as a sign of gratitude for what President Clinton and the people of the USA have done for the people of Kosovo during the war," he says, "it is a special honour to bear this name. I am proud of it." The US-led campaign that began on March 24, 1999 ended a conflict that left more than 13,000 people dead -- the vast majority Kosovo Albanians -- in the final chapter of Yugoslavia's bloody collapse.
