China on Wednesday defended what it called "professional and restrained" steps taken against Philippine ships near a flashpoint reef in the South China Sea, after Manila accused Beijing's Coast Guard of seizing guns from Filipino navy boats and injuring a sailor.
"Law enforcement measures taken by the China Coast Guard at the site were professional and restrained," foreign ministry spokesman Lin Jian said, adding that "no direct measures were taken against personnel of the Philippines." IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
