With one hand steering his boat and the other snapping a cell phone photo, environmental activist Alexandre Anderson registers the oil spill he has just discovered in Rio de Janeiro's Guanabara Bay on a new app designed to report environmental crimes.
The "De Olho na Guanabara" platform, developed by the local fishermen's association Ahomar and the NGO 350.org, has become a "weapon" for fishermen to record oil spills, irregular discharge of ballast, chemical spills, untreated water from ships, among other violations. IMAGES AND SOUNDBITES
