The President of Madeira Island's Forestry and Nature Conservation Institute, Manuel Filipe, discusses the recent wildfires on the Atlantic island which belongs to Portugal in an interview with AFP. "The Laurisilva forest as a whole did not suffer, nor did the fire reach other sensitive areas such as the nesting grounds of one of Europe's most endangered bird species, the Petrel de Madere," Filipe says.
