Israeli opposition leaders and prominent media figures hold an emergency meeting expressing fears that a series of government proposals they say would further curb press freedom in the country, which has already seen a sharp fall in its rating on the annual Reporters Without Borders Press Freedom Index. "We are the stethoscope of a democratic state and if you harm us, this state that is so sick, so sad, so miserable, it won't be able to survive ... we must stop the attempts to curb press freedom because without a free press, we have no chance of existing," says Israeli news presenter Oded Ben-Ami.
