Top diplomats from eight Arab countries meet in Jordan and call for a peaceful transition in Syria, backed by the UN and the Arab League, after Bashar al-Assad steps down. In addition to the meeting of Arab foreign ministers, Jordan also hosted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and senior EU and UN officials for talks on Syria. In a final statement after the talks in the Jordanian Red Sea port of Aqaba, the foreign ministers of Jordan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Qatar said they had agreed to "support a peaceful transition process" in Syria "in which all political and social forces are represented".
