Colombian President Gustavo Petro suspends peace negotiations with the National Liberation Army (ELN) guerrillas after a day of violence between armed groups in the Catatumbo region that left at least 30 people dead.
The latest fighting pitted rebels from the left-wing ELN -- the biggest of the armed groups still active in Colombia -- against dissidents from the Marxist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), which signed a peace deal with the state in 2016 after more than 50 years of war.
The northeast region, on the border with Venezuela, has seen violence between rival groups for years as they fight for control of the cocaine trade. STOCKSHOTS
