Description
Scheicho Scheifa is haunted by the fear of going blind. The farmer and baker from a small Ethiopian village suffers from trachoma which has turned his eyelids inwards, causing his eyelashes to scar his corneas. “Each time it flares up, I rip out my lashes to ease the pain,” he says. A Germany-based charity, Christian Blind Mission, is now helping him, and raising awareness in communities on how to prevent the debilitating disease which is spread through contact with the eyes or nose of infected people.
