Description
The White House Historical Association is unveiling a brand-new museum entitled The People’s House.
One block away from the White House, the experience will tell the story of the Executive Mansion, its inhabitants and the people who have dedicated their careers to its functions.
The 33,000-square-foot three-floor site features immersive exhibits and galleries.
Visitors will interact with a large-scale White House model, a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, and more immersive media galleries.
WHHA President Stewart McLaurin says he wants people to experience the fullness of their time in the museum.
“When you're in this gallery, we want people to feel as if they are in that room in the White House. The vast majority of the people who have the opportunity to visit here will not have the privilege to visit the White House itself,” McLaurin said.
The full-scale Oval Office replica is designed to match the office of the current president, and will change with whomever president is at that time.
“The concept of this is to replicate the Oval Office exactly as it currently exists. And every time we have a change in presidents, we will completely transform this room to look exactly like the office of the president of the United States is just 150 yards from where we stand right here,” McLaurin said.
