Kamala Harris has summoned Americans to reject political divisions and instead chart what she called a “new way forward," vowing she'll be a "president for all Americans" in an address to the Democratic National Convention Thursday night.
"I know there are people of various political views watching tonight. And I want you to know I promise to be a president for all Americans," Harris said.
"You can always trust me to put country above party and self, to hold sacred America's fundamental principles. From the rule of law to free and fair elections, to the peaceful transfer of power," she added.
Harris took the stage to a thunderous standing ovation as she closed out the Democrats' convention in Chicago, arguing that her personal story and background as a prosecutor made her uniquely qualified to protect Americans' interests against a former president she cast as only having his own interests in mind.
