Vice President Kamala Harris spoke about the attempted assassinations on Donald Trump before a moderated conversation on abortion access in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Harris offered condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, the former fire chief killed while, authorities have said, defending his family from gun fire on Saturday during the Trump rally.
Harris says the attack on Trump's rally "was a heinous, horrible, and cowardly act" and that political violence is never acceptable.
Harris went on to say, "And just as we must reject political violence, we must also embrace a robust discussion about what is at stake in this election. The surest way to reaffirm the strength of our democracy is by engaging in a vigorous and civil exchange of ideas."
