July 4, 1955 Oceanside celebrates its 20th annual beach celebration and bathing beauty contest. On the program, a parade, square dancing, and a group of lovely young ladies competing for the title of "Queen." 34 of California's most beautiful girls paraded before a crowd estimated at 10,000. Elaine Block won second place… Judges for the event motored up from La Jolla, where they are preparing for the next show at the playhouse. Lee Marvin, James Whitmore and Mrs. Dolores Costello Barrymore, a great beauty and widow of the late John Barrymore. It was a hard choice to make but… here's the winner… Miss Sandra Scarbo.
