Description
A La Mesa couple dedicated to helping the families of fallen first responders is now in need of help too, after a fire gutted their home.
The fire broke out Friday around 9:45 p.m.
"I was with my wife, we were having dinner late in the evening, we started smelling smoke," said Sgt. Nick Nguyen, an 18-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department.
Surveillance cameras from inside his home captured the smoke, pouring into the kitchen. The fire started in the dryer, located inside the couple's garage.
