The brother of former Chula Vista Councilwoman Andrea Cardenas is scheduled to face a judge for sentencing Wednesday afternoon. Jesus Cardenas pleaded guilty in February to two counts of grand theft, admitting he lied to the government to get money. Had he gone to trial, the 41-year-old political consultant potentially faced prison time. However, under the plea agreement, it appears he will likely be sentenced to probation. According to his attorney, Fernanda Ezquerro, after serving two years of probation, Cardenas can argue to have his felonies reduced to misdemeanors.
