San Diego State College has formally opened its new three million 700-thousand-dollar Aztec Center—the school’s ultramodern student union building. Terry Flanigan, Associated Student President, accepted the building yesterday for the students from architect Robert Mosher. State College president Dr. Malcolm Love said the project, a major asset to the college, was the result of many years of work by thousands of students and faculty members. The building is 100 percent student financed, self-sustaining, self-liquidating and non-tax supported. Patti Heighton, Miss San Diego, a sophomore at State, cut a ribbon to place the building in use. The center features a restaurant, snack bar, a large hall for dances, lectures and assemblies, and a total of eight lounges. Thirty years of planning and preparation culminated in yesterday’s dedication.
