Description
On November 13th, 2022, the San Diego Maritime Museum celebrated the Star of India’s 159th birthday. It’s the world’s oldest active sailing ship and has circled the entire glove 21 times. The Civil War era ship came to San Diego in 1927 and has been a part of the Maritime Museum of San Diego ever since. The celebration was extra special because of the return of the Euterpe, the figurehead that sits proudly atop the ship’s bow. This wasn’t the first time the Euterpe has been restored to its former glory. For this week’s News 8 Throwback, we’re looking back at its unveiling after a restoration in 1988. Chris Saunders was there.
