On Jan. 5, 2024, an aviation incident left passengers and the aerospace industry shaken after a door plug came off mid-flight on a Boeing plane.
Passengers on Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 experienced a frightening failure when a the door plug came off, leaving a gaping hole in the side of the plane. The Boeing 737 MAX 9, flying from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario, California, was forced to make an emergency landing back in Portland after reaching an altitude of approximately 16,000 feet.
"It’s so sudden and unexpected. You feel comfortable getting onto the aircraft, and then something like this happens — it can really shake you," Tim Loranger, an attorney who represents some of the passengers on the flight, said. Loranger is one of multiple lawyers representing clients who have filed civil lawsuits against Boeing, Alaska Airlines and Spirit Aerosystems.
