Description
A police officer in Fullerton, California, was managing traffic following a deadly traffic accident on June 12, 2024.
The police vehicle had its emergency lights on and several flares were placed on the road when a blue Tesla crashed into the police vehicle, which was blocking traffic, according to the Fullerton Police Department.
The police officer spotted the oncoming vehicle and moved to the side of the road, along with an off-duty officer who was riding with him.
The driver of the Tesla admitted to engaging his vehicle's 'self-drive' mode while using his cell phone, the Fullerton Police Department said. While there are no laws against the "self-drive" mode, officials said all rules and laws of the road still apply to the driver while controlling the vehicle.
The Tesla driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, which is active and ongoing, according to police.
