March 13 on The Story: A number of Oregon lawmakers, as well as former Governor John Kitzhaber, are pushing for bills this session which would provide greater support for parents and young children during their most pivotal years. One of them, the Child Success Act, would fund a series of early childhood "hubs" throughout the state to be a source for that support. Kitzhaber argues that these early interventions for children could head off problems later in life that weigh heavily on the state, things like homelessness and substance abuse.
