Jan. 8 on The Story: We're heading south of Oregon tonight to bring you the news from California, where devastating wildfires driven by the Santa Ana winds have burned down from the hills around Los Angeles and into the city's suburbs. At least five people are dead and well over 1,000 structures burned down, many of them homes. Some 70,000 people have been forced to evacuate. And now fire crews from Oregon are making their way down south to help, returning the favor of California crews who helped Oregon with a record fire season in 2024.
