Sept. 30 on The Story: About midway through this month, the news broke that the Oregon DMV had mistakenly registered over 300 people to vote despite them being ineligible, at least some of them due to being noncitizens. Last week, the number grew to 1,259. But the timeline of when the issue was discovered — and how it was discovered — has been mostly unclear. Today, we're learning that the agency knew there was a problem about six weeks before notifying state election officials, having discovered it shortly after a July 29 call with a nonprofit think tank that seems to have gotten the ball rolling.
