June 12 on The Story: In early September 2017, one of many recent years marked by major wildfires throughout Oregon, someone playing with fireworks sparked a blaze in the heights atop the Columbia River Gorge. The Eagle Creek Fire, as it came to be known, created some of the most striking and frightening images of that year, as flames advanced down toward the iconic Multnomah Falls Lodge east of Portland and even reached across the river into Washington. While fire crews were eventually able to contain it, the fire left some 50,000 acres scorched and ashen. But now, over six years later, the area's remarkable recovery is being painstakingly documented to demonstrate just how life, uh, finds a way.
