Last school year, district disciplined a total of 48 students for bringing a handgun, shotgun or rifle on K-12 campuses — up from 18 cases during 2018-19, the last full year before pandemic disruptions at school. And the guns are showing up in all kinds of Oregon communities, not just cities. The data shows that guns were recovered in 13 different districts. That said, Portland Public Schools accounted for almost half of the cases where students were disciplined for having a gun.
