Feb. 26 on The Story: On Friday, we told you that Democrats and Republicans appeared to be nearing agreement on a bill that would roll back Measure 110's drug decriminalization and overhaul drug policy in the state. Now we have the details of that proposal, as well as some of the responses to it, just as public comment on the amendment gets underway in Salem. The amendment does indeed represent a tougher approach to simple drug possession than Democrats originally proposed, making their original idea for "deflection programs" instead of arrests an optional one for law enforcement. But neither does it embrace the Class A misdemeanors for possession that Republicans and other groups wanted to see.
