Feb. 20 on The Story: Last week we detailed a proposal that ambulance provider American Medical Response sent to Multnomah County, essentially their pitch for improving ambulance response times that have taken a nosedive over the last two years. In it, they suggested that the county amend its longstanding requirement that ambulances be staffed by two paramedics each. Today, Chair Jessica Vega Pederson responded publicly, outlining her four-point plan to get response times on track — not by lowering county standards, but by holding AMR's feet to the fire to do whatever it takes to increase staffing levels and meet their contractual obligations to Multnomah County.
