Description
Jan. 15 on The Story: Oregon State University's campus is home to a facility where engineers are working on the building blocks of the future. At the A.A. "Red" Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory, technicians design, manufacture and test new types of mass timber that can help fight the impacts of climate change. Compared to more common building materials like steel, cement or concrete, mass timber takes less energy to generate, accounting for a lower carbon footprint. If it gets adopted as a major material for future construction, Oregon will be well-positioned to lead the nation in mass timber production and design.
