Description
Oct. 18 on The Story: Maria Burkhart Briley wasn't yet 3 years old when Japan Airlines Flight 715 went down in Malaysia. She and her parents were aboard that flight, heading back home from the U.S. The crash killed 34 people, including Briley's father, but the impact threw Briley from the wreckage into a pile of rubber tree leaves — alive, but hurt. As it happens, a young sportswriter pressed into service as a breaking news reporter was one of the first people on the scene, and he carried Briley to safety. Now, 46 years later, Briley and her rescuer have had a chance to reunite.
