Oct. 16 on The Story: Many seniors, veterans and people with disabilities rely on Social Security benefits to get by every month. So when they discover clear signs of fraud — repeat unauthorized charges for the same small dollar amount, for example, sometimes coming from halfway around the world — they need to get those charges reversed quickly. But several people KGW spoke with said that Direct Express, the government program administered by Comerica Bank that handles benefits accounts, flatly rejected their fraud claims despite the clear red flags. And there are signs that the problem is much larger than just these several stories.
