Aug. 10 on The Story: When there's a fire in Oregon, it's often volunteer firefighters who show up. A stunning share of fire departments in Oregon, 94%, are either all-volunteer or have a combination of paid and volunteer firefighters. But the number of people who will to answer the call is dwindling, and it's getting harder and harder for fire agencies to recruit and retain volunteers. There are a few factors contributing to the trend. KGW's Senior Investigative Reporter Kyle Iboshi looked into the issue in an effort to find out what's happening and what can be done to address it.
