Description
Aug. 4 on The Story: With little fanfare on Friday, Gov. Tina Kotek signed a bill that allows gas stations to begin offering self-service instead of requiring that attendants do the pumping. It's a brave new world in Oregon, one that not everyone is thrilled about. But it's perhaps not as big a change as people might think. For Oregon's most populous counties, gas stations still need to have attendants offering service for at least half their pumps. It's only in rural counties that gas stations can skip attendants altogether. Regardless, it's a big change after more than 70 years of the old gas station regime.
