July 12, 2023 on The Story: Portland is famous for it's pure, clean drinking water, sourced from the Bull Run watershed. But it's not immune to potentially harmful impurities, which is why the city is now on a looming deadline to start treating that water by 2027. Despite settling on a city-owned location in east Multnomah County to build a filtration plant, there's now growing resistance from residents of the rural community who don't want the intrusion of the major construction. And in the meantime, costs are skyrocketing — rising 24% in just the last year alone.
