Mary's Woods Continuing Care Retirement Community brings in live music to inspire its residents. Enrichment Manager Emily Hoover knows it works.
"Music is so powerful for anyone of any age but, especially seniors," Hoover said.
Guest musician Dan Schlesinger plays the tenor tuba. He brought it to Mary’s Woods for a little happy hour, filling the air with bumping brass bars.
"I've already oiled the valves and there's a main tuning slide that I put in a certain position," Schlesinger said. "I really try and select music that they know and enjoy.”
Residents are pleasantly surprised by the music he makes.
"I don't think I know what a tuba was," one woman chuckled.
For Dan, playing any time is his joy. Playing to an appreciative audience is the best.
"Seniors always have a lot of positive feedback. They always very much enjoy it."
