June 2, 2023 on The Story: Even though conservatives in the Oregon Senate continue to deny a quorum in the chamber, stalling votes on any bills, the lawmakers say that they're still working. Last night, that took the form of an "unofficial committee" — one without any Democrats — that met in Salem, with the proceedings streamed on Twitter. The committee's theme is oversight and accountability, which Republicans pitched as a means to sniff out government corruption. Some of the scandals in Salem this year suggest that more oversight and accountability wouldn't be such a bad thing. But Republicans' first meeting didn't go so well, in large part because of the ongoing walkout.
