May 17, 2023 on The Story: When the Portland tri-county area released results of its annual "point-in-time" count of the homeless population last week, children without shelter accounted for roughly a third of the total increase in homelessness in Multnomah County. But families and young people living without housing tend to be invisible — often on purpose. They camp off the beaten path or try to keep moving, fearing the dangers that come from living on the margins. Reporter Blair Best spoke to one family that's been living this way, though they wanted to hide their faces for fear of being separated by the state.
