Description
Thanks to a partnership between Portland Public Schools, PBOT and Metro, Every student at Rose City Park Elementary has a chance to learn how to ride a bike.
The school’s P.E. teacher, Danielle Koping, leads each class.
Fourth and fifth graders were fitted with bikes and helmets provided by PBOT, while the second and third graders ride scooters provided by Metro. ‘All Kids Bike,’ a national organization focused on teaching kindergartners bike-riding skills, provided balance bikes and curriculum.
The three week program not only teaches students how to ride, but also the rules of the road. Hand signals and right-of-way were what the fourth graders have been working on, which provides exercise and grows confidence.
