April 5, 2023 on The Story: Oregon lawmakers, university heads and tech industry bigwigs all came together on Wednesday to greet U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in Hillsboro. The topic of the day — semiconductors. With over $52 billion in federal CHIPS Act funding for semiconductor research and manufacturing up for grabs, Oregon is making the case for why it should get the biggest handful from the CHIPS bowl. With some of Oregon's biggest players all in one place, The Story's Pat Dooris also got his first chance to ask Gov. Tina Kotek for her thoughts on the bill that would hand her the unprecedented authority to wave away land use restrictions in order to make the state's semiconductor dream a reality.
