At SE 79th & Holgate, Theodore watches the scrapping of the old Holgate Library foundation. "Missing the old one but excited to see the new one. I'd like to see what the new building is," he said.
The new one will be over three times larger. Director of Libraries, Vailey Oehalke knows users will be impacted, and said "It's going to be hard. I keep using the phrase 'Short term pain for long term gain.'"
Supervisor Ama Bentley says his contact center will assist.
"This library's open, or did you know about this service that could fill that gap?" he said.
Every district building will be upgraded and several new structure will be built. In 2020, taxpayers passed a $387 million dollar construction bond.
