Feb. 16, 2023 on The Story: The effort to equip Portland police officers with body-worn cameras is a years-long saga, one that entered a new phase this week when the city and police union reached an impasse in their negotiations. Portland remains the largest city in the U.S. without body cams for its municipal police department. Meanwhile, Salem just successfully rolled out a body cam program for its officers, and the chief of police says that it's already paying dividends. We caught up with him to get an idea of what body cams can provide to both police and the community.
