Description
Feb. 8, 2023 on The Story: The City of Portland is mailing about 20,000 letters to high-earning taxpayers in the metro area, warning them that they're behind on paying some local taxes. The problem? Many people say that they had no idea they needed to pay those taxes in the first place. The letters are going out on behalf of Metro and Multnomah County — the former for the homeless services tax and the latter for a universal preschool tax. People we spoke with said that they would have been happy to pay the taxes, but they're less enthusiastic about the lack of communication and the late fees they've now received.
