Feb. 3, 2023 on The Story: In early March of 2021, reports started circulating that then-Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty had been involved in a hit-and-run crash. That claim was pretty quickly debunked — while there had been a hit-and-run, the suspect was not Hardesty. But the incident sparked an investigation at the Portland Police Bureau about who had leaked the police report that falsely named the commissioner. It ultimately led to the firing of officer Brian Hunzeker, then-president of the police union. But this week an arbitrator working with the city and the union decided that Hunzeker should get his job back.
