Jan. 27, 2023 on The Story: The pandemic caused a huge expansion in the number of people working remotely. For a lot of jobs, that move to remote work was only temporary, and people have returned to the office. But the state of Oregon has thousands of employees who are still working remotely — and hundreds who don't actually live in Oregon. Some of those are just over the river in Washington. But a surprising number are spread throughout the country. The big issue is that, when those workers come back to Oregon for a meeting or training, taxpayers could be footing the bill.
