Jan. 5, 2022 on The Story: In December, the team developing a replacement for the Interstate 5 Bridge between Oregon and Washington turned heads after releasing an updated cost estimate from $4 billion to $6 billion. That is a lot of taxpayer dollars, but despite the increase, Interstate Bridge Replacement Program Administrator Greg Johnson said the project is still slated to break ground in late 2025 — and does not plan on asking Oregon and Washington for more bank beyond the $1 billion already being asked from each state. Tonight we dive into that program and why the project's price tag jumped roughly $2 billion dollars.
