Description
Sept. 15, 2022 on The Story: Today, demolition crews blew up Oregon's last coal power plant. Located in the town of Boardman, it was a big part of the state's power grid from 1980 until Portland General Electric shut it down 2020. The plant pumped out roughly 2 million tons of CO2 every year, making it the biggest point of greenhouse gas emissions in the state. The demolition marks the end of an era as power companies continue to shift toward renewable energy.
